West Cook YMCA Offers All-Day “School’s Out Special,” for students whose schools are closed due to extreme cold weather

WHAT: West Cook YMCA that serves ten west suburban communities will offer an all-day “School’s Out Special” for children whose schools are closed due to severe cold weather.

WHEN:  Thursday, January 8, 2015 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

WHERE: West Cook YMCA, 255 South Marion Street Oak Park, Illinois ( one block east of Harlem            Avenue, two blocks south of Lake Street).

VISUALS:  School- age children will spend the day participating in arts and crafts, gym and sports activities, swimming and be served morning and afternoon snacks.

BACKGROUND: “Students may spend their day off because of the severe cold snap as an artist, athlete, scientist, explorer, dancer, chef, swimmer, magician and much more.

“We know that weather days off of school can be quite difficult for families to handle, especially with a parent’s busy work schedule.

“Our “School’s Out Specials” give kids a chance to explore new activities while having fun in a safe supportive environment. Our staff will provide a day of fun-filled activities,” said Elizabeth Lopez, West Cook YMCA Child, Family & Teen Director.

The West Cook YMCA was founded in 1903 when it opened across the street from Scoville Park at 156 North Oak Park Avenue. In 1954, the Y moved to its present location at 255 South Marion Street in Oak Park.
