Summer Reading: Superheroes

The Youth Services Department of the Maywood Public Library District is offering a summer reading program with a focus on superheroes through July 25th. Please visit the Library’s Youth Services Department for more details.

Save Energy=Save Money

On Saturday, July 18th, in room 201, Elevate Energy will have a presentation on how to save energy, and money, during the summer months from 11:30-12:30 pm.  They will also discuss the financial incentives available for home energy upgrades.  This event is free.

The History of the Brookfield Zoo: Presentation and Book Signing

Douglas Deuchler, who formerly taught at Proviso East High School, will be giving a presentation on the Brookfield Zoo in room 201 of the Maywood Public Library District on Monday, July 20th, from 5:15-6:15 pm. Deuchler will also be signing copies of his book, Brookfield Zoo and the Chicago Zoological Society, along with his other book, Maywood.

Buck-a-Bag Book Sale

A Buck-A-Bag Book Sale will begin on Wednesday, July 8, and will end on Wednesday, July 22, unless the Library has sold out before then. Hardcover and paperback books from the Library‘s Used Book Store will be on sale. Fill bags provided by thelibrary for only $1.00 for each bag you fill! Tickets for Ravinia

The Maywood Public Library District will have free tickets for some of the events of the 2015 Ravinia Festival. Tickets will be given away on a first come/first served basis at the Information Services Desk, which can be reached at 708-343-1847 x73during business hours. There are 4 tickets per date for events occurring with the Chicago Orchestra concerts, and 2 tickets per date for the Martin Theatre concerts. The Library asks that patrons take no more than 2 sets of tickets at a time. Quilting: Step-By-Step Instruction

If you are interested in learning how to construct quilts, please leave your information for Mildred A. Green at the Library by calling 708-343-1847, and ask for Information Services. The Quilting class meets at the Maywood Public Library District on every Tuesday from 12:00 noon until 2:30 pm in Room 202.

Instructions in Sewing

People who are interested in learning some of the basic skills involved in constructing clothing will want to take this free class in room 202 of the Maywood Public Library District on Thursdays from 12:00 noon until 2:30 pm.  Space is limited. In order to begin taking classes, please leave your information for Mildred A. Green at 708-343-1847.

__ AUGUST __

Utility Bill Clinic with C.U.B.

On Wednesday, August 5th, from 4:30-6:30 pm in room 201, the Citizens Utility Board, C.U.B., will have a presentation on handling your utility bills at the Maywood Public Library District. Those who attend may bring their bills for electricity, gas, or telephone for consultation by C.U.B.’s experts.  Some attendees have learned how to lower their bills by $200 per year.  To learn more about C.U.B., please visit their website at http://www.citizensutilityboard.org.

Maywood Workforce Center at the Library
Charles Townsend of the Maywood Workforce Center will visit the Maywood Public Library District on Monday, August 10th, at1:30 pm.  He will provide information about center services that are available for job seekers. The presentation will include an interactive workshop, “How to Conduct an Effective Job Search.” Additional take home materials will be provided to all attendees.  This will take place in room 201.

Broadway’s Best Hits

There will be a concert, performed by Elliot Wimbush and Company, at the Maywood Public Library District on Saturday, August 15, from 6:30-9:00 pm.  They will be performing some of Broadway’s best hits from the Great White Way.  Come and enjoy an evening of free live music, food, and community.

eBooks Through eRead Illinois

There will be a presentation on using ebooks at the Maywood Public Library District on Tuesday, August 25, from 4:00-5:00 pm. MAYWOOD PARK DISTRICT EVENTS & PROGRAMS 

Free Summer Meals

We are excited to once again serve as a host site for the FREE Summer Meals Program. All children ages 18 years and younger can come to the Park District starting Monday, June 22 through Friday, August 14th and enjoy a nutritious breakfast and lunch for free. Breakfast is served from 9:30 am – 10:30 am and Lunch from 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm (Monday- Friday). For more information call us 708.344.4740. No child should go hungry this summer, help spread the word!
