Maywood, Bellwood, Melrose Park Ranked Among U.S. Cities With Lowest Average Credit Scores

According to a recent survey by the personal finance network WalletHub, the average credit scores of residents in Bellwood, Maywood and Melrose Park are among the lowest in the nation.

Financial experts compared the average credit scores (as of September 2015) of people who live in 2,570 U.S. municipalities. Their ranking is based on data retrieved from TransUnion, a credit and information management services firm based in Chicago.

With an average credit rating of 590.3, Maywood is ranked 2,559, one ranking above Detroit (589.66). Bellwood (606.09) is ranked at 2,531. Melrose Park is ranked some rungs higher at 2,306 (634.12). Chicago stood at 2,137, with an average credit score of 642.

Other municipalities in Illinois that were ranked include Oak Park (ranked 601 with a 698.92 average score), Naperville (ranked 182 with a 720.67 average score), Wilmette (the highest-ranked Illinois municipality on the list at 15 with an average score of 743) and Harvey (the lowest-ranked Illinois municipality on the list at 2,568 with an average score of 573.61).
