The assets of the now-defunct Maywood Park Trotting Association, Inc., along with those of the Balmoral Racing Club, Inc., will be liquidated and sold to bidders during a two-day auction that will take place on April 27 and April 28, according to an April 7 statement released by Loeb Winternitz Industrial Auctioneers and Yellen Partners — the firms that will facilitate the liquidation.

“We are honored to be retained to manage the sale of the personal property assets of these two famous racing venues,” noted Charles J. Winternitz, president of Loeb Winternitz Industrial Auctioneers, in the statement.

“The auction includes all the ground maintenance equipment, vehicles, and many memorabilia items from throughout the decades. The partnership between Loeb Winternitz and Yellen Partners is the needed combination to recover the highest value for the assets.”

Maywood Park, located in Melrose Park, hosted its last race in 2015 after almost 70 years of horse racing activity. Both the Melrose Park facility and Balmoral Park, located in Crete, were closed down after the owners were sued by casinos and declared bankruptcy.

“The auctions are being held by order of the Honorable Donald R. Cassling, for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Northern District of IL, Eastern Division, Case Numbers: 14-45711 – Assets of Balmoral Park Racing Club, Inc. and 14-45718 – Assets of Maywood Park Trotting Association, Inc.,” the statement reads.

Triton College athletic renovation IITriton College is gearing up to celebrate the completion of renovations to its east campus athletic complex. The renovations are the latest in a series of campus renewal projects that the college seeks to complete within three years. The projects are funded by the 2014 sale of $53 million bonds, which will be paid off without an increase in property taxes.

“The renovations to the East Campus Athletic Complex include new synthetic turf baseball and softball fields with updated field houses and bleachers,” noted a recent statement released by the college.

“Additionally, our new multi-purpose field is ready to host lacrosse, soccer, track and field, and other athletic contests. Triton College hopes to make the new complex a resource the entire community can enjoy, by partnering with schools and organizations to host youth sports tournaments, high school competitions and more.”

The dedication ceremony for the newly renovated athletic complex will take place on April 28, at 2 PM, at the stadium entrance, located on the east side of Triton, 200 5th Ave., River Grove. College officials are expecting former Major League Baseball All-Star and Triton alum Lance Johnson and former Triton baseball coach Bob Symonds, among others, to be in attendance.

After the dedication ceremony, Triton’s baseball team will play Oakton Community College. VFP
