Maywood Police are investigating two shootings that happened over two days last week. The first shooting, which took place on April 5 at around 9:51 PM, happened on the corner of 8th and Huron, police say.

Oscar Ortiz, a 23-year-old white male from Lyons, and Armando Moreno, a 23-year-old white male from Melrose Park, were standing outside when an unknown dark vehicle pulled up and started shooting, striking Ortiz in the left leg and hitting Moreno in the face.

The victims transported themselves Westlake Hospital, where they were both listed in stable condition at the time of the report.

Another shooting, which took place on April 6, at around 1:31 AM, happened on the 1900 block of S. Third Ave.

Yarnell White, a black male from Maywood, was sitting in the rear passenger seat of a vehicle when an unidentified black male approached the vehicle and started shooting, striking White in the left hand.

White was taken by ambulance to Loyola University Medical Center, where he was in stable condition at the time of the incident, police say.

  1. OMG, what are you going to do Mayor with all this shooting in town, someone has to be liable for trying to stop the killing. Mayor we elected you for a reason and this shooting was not part of the deal, you preached about making the town safe for the kids to play. The village has several people dead and several people shot according to the WSJ. MAYOR, you must show concern for our village and do something. I grew up in Maywood so did your family, this never occurred on a regular bases like now. We elected you, you wasn’t selected.
