Soldier from Maywood Found Dead at Fort Hood

A soldier who was found dead last week in an army barracks at the Fort Hood military post in Killeen, Texas has been identified as Maywood native Spc. Dion Shannon Servant, pictured left, according to a statement released by the military post on Monday.

Servant, 24, was found in his room inside of a barracks at the Texas military installation last Friday.

The Maywood native was a supply specialist with the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division since December 2014. He had been serving on active duty since June 2014.

According to the statement, Servant’s death, the third announced by Fort Hood officials this month, is still being investigated and no cause has yet been released.

Servant earned numerous awards while in the military, including the Army Achievement Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. VFP
