Cook County Sheriff’s Officer Jason Gallero, 45, collapsed and died last Thursday while running at the department’s training facility in Maywood, according to a Chicago Tribune report.
The Sept. 17 Tribune article notes that Gallero was taken to Gottlieb Memorial Hospital in Melrose Park, where he was pronounced dead at 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 15. The medical examiner’s office conducted an autopsy that showed Gallero, who had diabetes, died from heart disease.
Gallero, who began working with the sheriff’s department as a corrections officer in 1994, became a sheriff’s police officer in 2002, the Tribune reports.
