Dozens Camped Outside of Chick-fil-A in Melrose Park

Chick-fil-A, the popular fast-food restaurant, doesn’t open its new Melrose Park location at 2 Winston Plaza until tomorrow, Oct. 13, but already around 30 people have pitched tents outside of the store in order to be among the first 100 in line to receive free Chick-fil-A for a year, according to the restaurant chain’s communications representatives.

“To be clear,” a Huffington Post article on the “First 100” program notes, “this is not an unlimited fast food pass. ‘First 100’ victors receive one free chicken sandwich meal per week for a year, roughly $300 dollars worth of chicken.”

Chick-fil-A officials also noted that the restaurant is hosting a children’s book drive for the Melrose Park Public Library. Residents can drop off new or gently used children’s books the restaurant’s Melrose Park location from today through Saturday, Oct. 15.

According to a company press release, Chick-fil-A also announced that it will “more than double its commitment to restaurant team members with an enhanced initiative called Remarkable Futures providing $4.9 million in annual scholarships starting in 2017.”

“Having awarded $37.7 million since 1973,scholarships now will be available in three categories, ranging from $2,500 to $25,000, and will be based on leadership, community involvement and academic achievement,” the release notes. For more details about the scholarship fund, click here.

According to a company release, the Melrose Park restaurant will be open from Monday through Saturday, 6:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. It will serve a full breakfast menu until 10:30 a.m. Like all Chick-fil-A restaurants, it will be closed on Sunday. VFP
