According to a Feb. 16 report by the Chicago Sun-Times, bond was set on Friday at $200,000 for Janay C. Hatley, 24, of Maywood. Hatley was charged with two counts of aggravated DUI/accidental death and two counts of reckless homicide, Maywood police announced Thursday.

Maywood police say Hatley was speeding down the 1100 block of South 9th Ave. in a 2004 GMC Envoy at around 3:48 a.m. Tuesday when she struck a People’s Cab vehicle being driven by Martrail Shelton, 25.

  1. That’s good. I just don’t understand in this photo why Ms. Hatley is smiling in this mugshot. What she did was very immoral and two lives were taken, due to her stupidity. SMH But, I will continue to pray for justice for the victims’ families.

  2. The media has placed a picture of this young lady in the paper that has to be old. The car is smash up, if that young lady has no scratches on her after that crash, it has to be a blessing. We have to look deeper into situations, this young lady is going to need mental help for the rest of her life. We must look at what drove this young lady to drink this heavy to put herself in danger like this. The parents on both sides along with citizens is asking the question. Why? We lost three young people, two to death and one to jail. We must get our youth to understand life is valuable.

    1. I agree. But, how can the village of Maywood get our youth to understand about life? What is really wrong is the disturbance of the human spirit that is completely damaged by the youth of Maywood.

  3. First thats my lil cuz she made a mistake.. And this picture old dont know why they used it. Im sorry for the family and she is to if you dont know what you talking about watch your fucking mouth

  4. We have to fight those things that are destroying our kids such as social media, television, media, violent music an young parenting. We have to put our youth first and educate them while informing them with life motivated information. We are putting less mature people in front of our kids an this stunt they growth. The adults are thinking like the kids, instead of being a responsible an edifying adult. We need to stop letting these people use our kids for profit, and show them you truly care about them. We have to take our kids out of a hood mentality, an put them in a community mentality where they see us control the economics, education and community development this give them hope. Our kids dont understand value of life, because the community history is not being shared enough. The kids need to be taught the right way an shown love. If you dont love yourself, how can you love someone else, we have to respect the kids an show them true love. Lets keep our kids in positive activities, where they can be taught life skills by mature adults.

    1. You’re so right! I couldn’t agree more. Also, one thing that I always stated that it starts at home. Parents need to discipline and instill their child with values.
