In one night, the Proviso Township High Schools District 209 school board lost three incumbents and gained a super-majority with the election of Amanda Grant, Samuel Valtierrez, Arbdella “Della” Patterson and Rodney Alexander — all candidates on the Proviso Together slate.

They’ll join incumbents Teresa Kelly, Claudia Medina and Ned Wagner, who successfully ran for the D209 school board on the Proviso Together slate in 2015.

Sitting D209 Board President Theresa D. McKelvy, who was part of the Proviso First slate, lost her bid for reelection, along with incumbent board members Daniel Adams and Brian M. Cross.

  1. They deserved this and I am so proud of them. They ran a clean campaign. This is what good politics is! People demanding change and the voters listening for once. They worked so hard.

  2. This is a national story! Finally, after decades of reprehensible corruption, Proviso taxpayers and parents have taken back our schools and our tax contributions with our amazing team of Alexander, Grant, Kelly, Medina, Patterson, Valtierrez and Wagner! Full speed ahead, and we are never ever going back to the dark days of Welch, Adams, Cross and McKelvy. Go Proviso go!!

  3. All I can say is that I am so glad that the people have spoken, and there would be some progressive changes in the high schools in the Proviso Township. I am forever humble to see the elected candidates as parents, instead of politicians that have been dipping into the tax money dollars.
