The search for a teenager who jumped into the Des Plaines River near Melrose Park last night and did not return to the surface has resumed this morning, according to an ABC 7 news report.
“The teenager was with about a dozen other teenagers Saturday afternoon hanging out on the railroads by the river, near the 8300-block of West North Avenue in unincorporated Cook County,” ABC reported.
After three of the teens jumped into the water, witnesses saw the victim fighting to stay afloat before. When the victim failed to resurface, the teenagers called 911.
The search, which is being led by railroad police, was described by authorities as a “recovery mission,” ABC reports.
This is the second recovery effort that has taken place in the Des Plaines River since Friday, when work crews who were cleaning the river discovered a dead body in the water near Maywood.
