Jane Addams Elementary School fourth grader, Isle Saenz, has plenty of artistic talent. She is among 5 national grand prize winners in the 2016-17 Preferred Meals “Healthy Breakfast for a Healthier Me!” Art Contest.
Saenz’s winning design showed “larger than life” on the side of Preferred Meals’ delivery truck at a surprise assembly held at the school on May 11. The traveling billboard will be on display across the city for years to come.
The artistic 4th-grader was recognized and honored at a presentation hosted by special guest Corey Rich (aka Corey the Dribbler). Rich is a 4-Time Guinness World Record Holder that’s been featured on The Late Show with David Letterman, ESPN First Take, Comcast Sportsnet, Fox News, and is widely considered to be the world’s greatest dribbler.
Corey delivered a healthy message to students to reinforce the importance of eating well, being active, and making healthy lifestyle choices.
Preferred Meals, which provides school meals to Jane Addams Elementary in District 89, created the art contest and nutrition plan program in 2012 to educate children and support healthy eating.
The contest, available to students in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades, provides nutrition education and promotes creativity in a fun and imaginative way.
Winners are selected based on originality of design, theme, message clarity and artistic merit by a special judging committee. First and Second place winners will see their art featured throughout their school meal program and Preferred Meals’ communications in the upcoming 2017-18 school year. VFP
