Maywood police are currently investigating a reported carjacking that happened early Monday morning, according to a statement the department released on July 17.
At around 4:10 a.m, police say, Maywood patrol officers spotted a red Chevrolet Impala with an Illinois license that had reportedly been stolen from Chicago during an aggravated vehicular hijacking. The release doesn’t indicate where in the village officers observed the carjacking.
When police officers “attempted to position their patrol units to curb the offending vehicle, the driver accelerated at a high rate of speed and refused to stop for enforcement attempts,” the release stated.
The driver then led police on a high speed chase through surrounding suburbs before abandoning his vehicle at Grand Ave. and Oak St. in River Grove. He was apprehended by officers after a short foot chase.
Maywood police said they’re still investigating the matter. Anyone with information about the incident should contact Det. Vargas or Lt. Diaz at (708) 450-4471 or email firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com. VFP
