One man is dead after a multi-car collision that happened in Maywood on Sept. 6, according to police.

The incident happened at the corner of 15th Ave. and St. Charles Rd., at around 5:09 p.m., according to Maywood Police Officer Pirsia Allen, who said he was on the scene of the crash when it happened.

“I was riding down St. Charles and the next thing I know I hear a boom,” Allen recalled, adding that the driver of the vehicle that caused the crash, and who later died the same day, was Javier Bolivar, of Melrose Park.

“The guy went over from the east side of traffic into oncoming westbound traffic,” Allen said. “He ran into five cars, [crashing head-on into one of them]. They took him to the hospital and said that he had passed away on the operating table.”

Allen said that he wrote the man tickets for illegal passing and the illegal transport of alcohol, but that he didn’t know whether or not the man was under the influence of any drugs or alcohol. The man did not have any identification on him at the time of the crash, the officer said.

Allen said that no other injuries were reported. Most of the cars the man crashed into were parked, Allen added, but that the vehicle that the man hit head-on was carrying a woman and a young child.

“The man totaled his car and hers, but it’s a blessing that the woman and child were not injured,” Allen said. “They walked away without a scratch.”

So far, there’s been no word on a cause of death from the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. This report will be updated if, and when, further details of the crash are made available. VFP

  1. Another accident death. I guess spending money on the speed indicator that be posted up on the side of the road isn’t helping. The police officer didn’t check the guy for drugs, the hospital could’ve told the officer that, if he gave him a ticket for DUI. The second person in a week. The streets is not safe, an no one cares.
