Proviso East graduate and Maywood resident Nick Brown, 31, was recently featured in a Sept. 9 article in Crain’s Chicago Business.

Brown is the creator and operator of Glappitnova, what Crain’s calls “a multiday, multicity conference for young artists and entrepreneurs.” According to its website, Glappitnova is designed to create productive collisions.

“Scattered in cities around the world for multiple days at the same time, millennial heavy professionals from different backgrounds, industries, perspectives, social class, and lifestyles collide once a year.”

Some cool tidbits from the Crain’s article:

Brown has one serious social network: “Few Glappitnova speakers are white or over 40. Brown uses attendee input to create topics for panels and finds speakers in what he says is his nationwide network of some 10,000 people in business, sports, arts and culture.”

Glappitnova speakers run the gamut: The 5-year-old conference, which has been held in Chicago, New York and San Francisco (and could possibly be coming to other cities, such as Miami and Washington, D.C., in the future) has featured a “white supremacist turned anti-hate evangelist,” the senior vice president of digital media at the NFL” and the CEO of the political website, BallotReady, among others.

Growing pains: Brown, whose younger brother is former Proviso East football standout and NFL player Sergio Brown, is looking to scale his dream up but that requires funding, specifically “more sponsors,” and good, old-fashioned help.
