Apparently, there was more than $3 dishes, music and dancing at the 37th Annual Taste of Melrose Park, which was held Sept. 1 through Sept. 3.

According to a Sept. 16 Chicago Sun-Times report, Melrose Park police “were allowed to hawk $10 raffle tickets for a chance to win an AR-15-style semiautomatic rifle as a fund-raiser for their union. They also raffled off a Ruger 9mm handgun.”

According to a flyer, winners were required “to have a valid Foid card” and were directed to fill out paperwork and pickup the weapon at Suburban Sporting Goods, 2306 W. North Ave. in Melrose Park.
