A Maywood man was arrested during a raid carried out by a Maywood Police drug tactical unit and members of Cook County’s High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area task force early on Sept. 19.
Law enforcement authorities arrested Jamal Howlett, 32, at his home on the 1600 block of South 8th Ave. in Maywood on early Tuesday morning, said Maywood Lt. Dennis Diaz.
At the time of his arrest, Diaz said that Howlett was in possession of a 40-caliber semi-automatic weapon and 7 ounces of cannabis.
Howlett, who was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and passion with intent to deliver, is due in court for a bond hearing on Sept. 20.
The joint operation is the second raid that the local law enforcement officials have conducted in less than a week.
On Sept. 16, two men were arrested in a raid that took place on the 600 block of South 4th Ave.
Diaz said that the raids are the result of ongoing investigations by Maywood police designed, in part, to stem a recent uptick in gun violence that’s occurred in the village. VFP
