Proviso Township High Schools District 209 is set to host this school year’s first edition of Parent University on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 6 p.m., at the Rock of Ages Baptist Church-owned T.H. Wade Foundation Center, 1405 Madison St. in Maywood.
“We are very excited about this opportunity to partner with Rock of Ages Baptist Church in making this event available to parents in the community,” said Dan Johnson, D209’s director of student and family services, in a statement released by the district.
“Parent University is designed to provide parents with valuable information to support student success and to help meet the Board of Education’s goal of improving parent and community engagement,” according to the statement. “Parent University events are planned in collaboration with the District and the Strengthening Proviso Youth Committee.”
The district noted that Tuesday’s event “will focus on planning for life after high school, with presentations on paying for college and choosing the right college. The event also will feature community resources that are available to support students and families.
“Students from Proviso East High School, Proviso West High School, and Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy can earn one hour of community service credit for each of parent who attends.”
