Eddie C. Hicks, a former sergeant with the Chicago Police Department, was arrested in Detroit on Sept. 19 after an international manhunt that lasted for 14 years, according to the FBI.
Hicks’ arrest has made local and national headlines. On Sept. 19, the Chicago Tribune reported that Hicks, a “29-year veteran of the police force,” was charged “in Chicago in 2001 with running a crew of rogue officers who robbed drug dealers, pocketed the illicit cash and sold the stolen drugs to other pushers. After Hicks fled the country on the eve of his trial in 2003, authorities said he was presumed to have traveled to Brazil.”
The Cook County Chronicle reported that Hicks, now 68, targeted drug dealers in Chicago and the suburbs, including “Dolton, Harvey, Alsip, Calumet City, Country Club Hills, Matteson and west suburban Maywood.”
