Heavy, Constant Rain Leads to First-ever Pumpkin Patch Parade Cancellation

The nearly non-stop rain on Saturday has flooded parts of the Des Plaines River and thrown a wrench in many people’s plans, particularly those looking forward to enjoying the annual Maywood Fine Arts Pumpkin Patch Parade.

The fall event, which typically starts in the mornings and extends into afternoon, was cancelled for the first time ever due to heavy rainfall.

According to the National Weather Service, it’s been raining nearly non-stop for 12 hours across Cook County, with suburbs in Proviso Township getting the most rainfall — at least four inches today, from early morning until 5 p.m.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch for most parts of northern Illinois until 4 a.m. on Sunday.
