The Maywood Park District will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly renovated grounds of their headquarters at the corner of 9th Avenue and Madison St. on Saturday, Oct. 21, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Those interested in going should confirm their attendance by calling (708) 344-4740. For confirmation, press “0” for the front desk.

Work on the exterior redesign started in June. The roughly $500,000 project was fully funded, with half of the money coming a state grant that required matching funds.

The redesign includes the installation of pingpong and game tables, the resurfacing of the parking lot, the renovation of the outdoor garden, the installation of a flower bed island in the lot, brand new fencing, a new outdoor basketball court that could be converted into additional parking during the winter months, and a t-ball and soccer field designed for smaller children, among other improvements.

“For the past few months we have been working diligently to provide even more resources to the community of Maywood, and the opening of this new space is a hallmark in our efforts to accomplish just that,” said Lonette Hall, the park district’s executive director, in a statement. VFP

  1. I love the ideal, but lets get the ball rolling for our kids. The kids have nothing to do an they are starving for excitement. We don’t need no more ribbon or parade ridding, just get to the business…..OUR KIDS!

  2. This is a huge stepping stone for the children in the village of Maywood, especially the Maywood Park District. Our children definitely need something to do. They need programs and activities to keep them interested, motivated, and bring their self-esteem up. I hope that the Maywood Park District can continue to move forward, because it should have been done a long time ago.
