Registration is open for Spectrum University, a tutoring program offered by the nonprofit Answer Inc. for adults, ages 18 through 40, who have autism and other developmental disorders.
Participants receive instruction in reading, writing and math. Sessions will take place every Saturday, from Nov. 4, 2017 through Jan. 27, 2018, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
According to promotional literature, the courses are taught by instructors “that full enhance and engage each student as active learners.”
“More than a third of young adults on the autism spectrum are neither working nor in college,” according to the website of the Answer Inc., the nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness about, and providing resources related to, autism and developmental disorders in communities of color.
“Young adults on the autism spectrum experience unique challenges in finding work or enrolling in appropriate educational opportunities after leaving high school. The Answer Inc. facilitates Autism friendly employers and connects them with eligible applicants to become part of community life.”
