Maywood Man’s Nov. 19 Death Ruled Homicide

The death of a Maywood man, who according to initial reports had accidentally shot himself, was later ruled a homicide, according to autopsy reports released by the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The incident happened at around 1:50 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 19 in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood, according to Chicago police, who initially had said that the man shot himself. The results of an investigation, however, revealed that someone fired, shooting him in the groin.

According to the Cook County medical examiner’s office, Anthony Collins, 30, of the 1900 block of S. 6th Ave. in Maywood, was pronounced dead at around 2:28 p.m. after being rushed to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. VFP
