There’s a lot happening in the Proviso Township area this week. Here are just a sampling of the big events going on near you.
Boost your job prospects by attending a career fair
On Friday, Dec. 15, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Proviso Missionary Baptist Church, 1116 S. 5th Ave., Proviso Leyden Council for Community Action (PLCCA) will host a career fair. Contact Karen R. Gunn: (708) 450-3500 for more info.
Get free toys while meeting Santa
On Saturday, Dec. 16, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Maywood Park District, 921 S. 9th Ave. in Maywood, Empowerment Church and the park district will be giving away close to 1,000 toys. This event will be held in conjunction with the park district’s “Holiday Breakfast with Family and Friends” event, which will feature breakfast, a visit from Santa and a special Gingerbread House Challenge with District 89 students.

Celebrate amazing women
On Saturday, Dec. 16, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., at the Maywood Public Library, 121 S. 5th Ave. in Maywood, the Women’s Community Leadership Council will host “Making a Difference Day.”
The women will be seeking donations, including sample size toiletries, paint brushes, winter gloves and black baby dolls and journals for various individuals and nonprofits. They include Shanee K. Wrap free with the Maywood Public Library
On Saturday, Dec. 16, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and on Monday, Dec. 18, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., at the Maywood Public Library, 121 S. 5th Ave. in Maywood, the library will have all the materials for wrapping gifts available to you for free!
Enjoy a Christmas Cantata
On Sunday, Dec. 17, 4 p.m., at Canaan AME Church, 801 S. 14th Ave. in Maywood, the West Suburban Chorale will perform Glenn E. Burleigh’s Christmas Cantata, “Born to Die,” in memory of George Robertson, Jr. VFP
