East Defeats West In Holiday Tourney Consolation Championship

[By Proviso West Athletics] The Proviso East Pirates (10-3) secured the 2017 Proviso West Holiday Tournament Consolation Championship, outlasting the Proviso West Panthers (5-3), 71-64 on Saturday afternoon.

The Pirates led the entire game, including opening a 42-23, 19-point, lead in the third quarter before the Panthers made a furious comeback, narrowing the gap all the way down to seven, 71-64, with 26 seconds to play in the fourth quarter.

The Pirates featured a balanced effort that saw four in double-figures scoring, led by Quinlan Bennett’s 18. Jordan Morris and Trevor Moore added 13 apiece while Jaelon Hood finished with 12 points and ten assists in the winning effort.

For the Panthers, Ronnie Allgood scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Williante Williams buried three threes, finishing with 13 points while Deveon Bryant and Larry Lynch added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Whitney Young was scheduled to play Orr in the tournament championship game on Dec. 30. For more scores, click hereVFP

  1. I was at the basketball game! One hell of a rivalry game! Very surprised that the Proviso East Boys Varsity Basketball team defeated the Proviso West Panthers (four top rated Division I players). It was a very physical game, but the Pirates stood their ground and brought the Consolation Championship at Proviso East High School. Major props to Coach Donnie Boyce of his coaching leadership!
