Local law enforcement officials are treating a shooting that happened outside of a Bellwood nightclub on Jan. 8 as a homicide after a man was pronounced dead at Loyola University Medical Center not long after the incident.
The shooting happened at around 2 a.m. on Monday outside of Avenue 23, a bar located at 2305 St. Charles Rd., in Bellwood, according to a CBS Chicago report.
Bellwood Mayor Andre Harvey told CBS Chicago reporters that the incident started from an argument between two groups of people who started fighting inside of the establishment before bar employees asked them to leave, Harvey told the news outlet.
Once the parties were outside of the club, someone started shooting, wounding three people. According to the CBS report, “Two of the victims were from Chicago. One suffered a graze wound, the other was shot in the leg.”
A third victim, the outlet reports, was from Maywood and died from multiple gunshot wounds to the chest. The Cook County medical examiner’s office, however, indicated that the man is from Chicago.
Lazarrek T. Ellis, 30, was taken to Loyola University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 2:44 a.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.
According to Harvey, this is Bellwood’s first homicide of 2018. VFP
