Bellwood Man Fatally Shot While Trying To Rob 58-Year-Old In Chicago

A 23-year-old Bellwood man was fatally shot on Jan. 8 while trying to rob an older man in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood, according to a Chicago Sun-Times report, published Jan. 9, and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Shaquille A. Gales, of the 3700 block of Butterfield Rd., in Bellwood, approached a 58-year-old man on Jan. 8, at around 5:45 p.m., somewhere in the 5500 block of West Thomas St., in Chicago, and tried to take the older man’s property at gun point, according to the Sun-Times, which cited Chicago Police.

The 58-year-old, who was a concealed-carry permit holder, “pulled out his own weapon and shot the attempted robber, police said,” notes the Chicago Sun-Times report.

Gales, who was shot in the chest, was taken to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, where he was pronounced dead. The medical examiner’s office reported that Gales was pronounced dead at 5:02 p.m. VFP
