A family has been displaced after a fire that happened on Jan. 15, at 142 S. 16th Ave., in Maywood, according to Maywood Fire Chief Craig Bronaugh.
Bronaugh said the fire broke out at around 4 p.m. Although it was contained to a bedroom, he added, there was enough damage to other parts of the house that made it uninhabitable at the moment.
“Red Cross was asked to assist the family in finding shelter and resources,” Bronaugh said, adding that no one was injured in the blaze.
So far, the cause of the fire is still under investigation, he said, adding that it doesn’t appear to be malicious.
“During the winter, these fires have a tendency to happen, but I can’t say if this particular fire was weather-related until we know what caused it,” the chief said.
Bronaugh said that Maywood firefighters were assisted by firefighters from departments in Bellwood, Broadview, Melrose Park, River Grove and Hillside. VFP
