Proviso Township High Schools District 209 is collaborating with the Center for Economic Progress (CEP) to provide free tax preparation services to low-income students, families and community members in Proviso Township for four days this year.
The services will take place on the center’s 40-foot Progress on the Go financial services bus, which will be parked out in front of Proviso Math and Science Academy, 8601 W. Roosevelt Rd., in Forest Park, during the following dates and times:
- Saturday, Jan. 27 | 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Saturday, Feb. 24 | 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Saturday, March 31 | 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Saturday, April 14 | 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
According to a statement released by D209 officials, CEP “provides free federal and state tax returns for the current or previous years for individuals with salaries of $30,000 or less and households of two or more person with income less than $55,000.”
Last year, D209 partnered with CEP’s tax prep bus to offer two days of free tax prep services.
“I welcome the opportunity to offer financial education services at our District as a way of empowering Proviso students, families and communities,” said D209 Supt. Jesse Rodriguez in the statement.
“I believe that these services will greatly benefit our students who are currently employed by teaching them the responsibility and process of filing a tax return so that they can save money and strengthen their financial decision-making skills,” Rodriguez said.
The Progress on the Go bus will also be at the Maywood Multipurpose Building, 200 S. 5th Ave., in Maywood, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., every Saturday from Feb. 10 through March 17; and at the Village of Broadview Municipal Building, 2350 S. 25th Ave., in Broadview, on Saturday, March 10, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
