District 209 To Hold Facilities Master Plan Community Meeting, Jan. 23

Proviso Township High Schools District 209 officials are inviting community members to a public meeting about the district’s burgeoning Facilities Master Plan. The meeting is scheduled to take place tonight, Jan. 23, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Proviso West High School, 4701 Harrison St., in Hillside.

As previously reported, the district, for the last several years, has “been using a capital and construction list. A Facilities Master Plan, however, fuses curriculum needs, technological upgrades, current facility conditions, and enrollment projections into one document that is used for long-term planning.”

Last June, the D209 school board approved a contract with Chicago-based architecture firm Perkins and Will to draft the master plan at a cost of roughly $140,000.

During the Jan. 23 meeting, the public will have a chance to meet the architects, learn about the master facility process, provide input and ask questions.

“Our district spent many years not addressing the capital needs of our buildings. We are starting the process,” D209 Supt. Jesse Rodriguez told the Forest Park Review last March after the board selected Perkins and Will. “There’s a lot to be done.”

Refreshments and snacks will be provided during the Jan. 23 meeting. VFP

  1. I highly recommend all the residents of the Proviso Township who have children attending Proviso East, Proviso West, and PMSA to come to Proviso West High School and meet the architects of Perkins + Will. Please ask the hard questions to make sure that they’re accountable to the community.
