According to a Jan. 25 Crain’s article, Loyola Medicine in Maywood will pay roughly $270 million to buy MacNeal Hospital, according to an application Loyola filed this month with the state regulator that must approve the sale, which is scheduled to close by March.
Last October, Loyola announced that it had agreed to acquire MacNeal — a century-old, 368-bed community medical center based in Berwyn — along with its affiliate operations, from Tenet Healthcare Corporation, which is an international for-profit healthcare services company based in Dallas, Texas.
As part of the agreement, Loyola will take over local physician practices owned by Tenet; Chicago Health System, an independent practice association with nearly 1,000 physicians; and CHS accountable care organization.
According to Crain’s, no spokespeople for Loyola and Tenet would comment on the acquisition price.
“In the application to state regulators, Loyola said that adding MacNeal likely would reduce costs at the hospital and surrounding communities it serves, though by how much isn’t clear,” Crain’s reported. “Loyola noted that it will continue to invest in MacNeal and its employees, and the scope of services offered at the hospital would not change.” VFP
