The Maywood Fire Department is currently investigating the cause of a fire that broke out in a multi-unit apartment building on Jan. 27, according to Fire Chief Craig Bronaugh.
The department responded to reports of smoke in the building, located at 506 Erie St., just before 1 a.m., on Saturday.

“After investigating, fire personnel discovered fire in an unoccupied apartment unit on the second floor of the building,” Bronaugh said. “The fire extended to another unoccupied apartment unit directly above it, on the third floor — where the fire was extinguished.”
Bronaugh said that that one woman was transported to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood for smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. VFP
