This month, students with Stairway of the Stars and Maywood Fine Arts will perform one of the world’s great classical ballets, “Swan Lake,” as part of MFA’s Classical Ballet for New Audiences program.

The performances will take place on Friday, March 23, 10 a.m., and Saturday, March 24, 7 p.m., at Trinity High School, 7574 Division St. in River Forest. Regular tickets are $15 ($10 for seniors and $5 for children).

“Artistic directors Heidi Renteria and Taiyana Shurn create a concise version of the ballet that is child friendly yet includes original music and choreography, which fully exhibits this exquisite art form,” according to an MFA statement.

“Swan Lake is a romantic fable of ill-fated passion, dreamlike transformation and ultimate forgiveness set to Tchaikovsky’s glorious score,” the statement adds. “With breathtaking choreography and visually magnificent costumes evoking a Renaissance court, the fabled lake of swans rises into view, inspiring awe for generations to come.”

Purdie Baumann, a former Radio City Rockette, will also make an appearance at the performance, MFA officials said.

“Principal dancers Vivi Parecki and Jennifer Holoubek will keep you on your toes as the story unfolds. Vivi has graced the stage of Ballet Nebraska and Jennifer the stage at Ballet Tuscon,” the statement noted.

“Graduating seniors Alyssa Rodriguez, Ta’jae Pickett and Ryan Cargie will be performing alongside an all-star cast of Stairway of the Stars ballet students. Dance dad Roberto Renteria in the role of Von Rothbart will add to the magic of this romantic ballet.”

Tickets are available at Maywood Fine Arts and Stairway of the Stars and will also be available at the door. For more info, click here, call (708) 681-2788 or email
