There’s a lot happening in the Proviso Township area this week. Here are just a sampling of the big events going on near you:

Vote! 

On March 20, citizens all over the state will go to the polls to vote in the Primary Election.

Take in competitive local hoops 

On March 16-17, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., respectively, at the Maywood Multipurpose Building, 200 S. 5th Ave. in Maywood, the Danka Basketball League will host a Spring Jam Hoop Tourney. Entry is $5. Food and concessions will be provided. There will also be clothing vendors.

Get empowered at a small business expo

On Saturday, March 17, 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., at 3031 S. 25th Ave. in Broadview, the village of Broadview and Broadview Mayor Katrina Thompson will partner with Goal Getters to host the a Small Business Expo.

The event will featured Avon, apparel, books, skincare, hair care, shoes, tax consulting and more.

Get a free prom dress

On Sunday, March 18, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at St. Eulalia-Quinn Center, 1845 S. 9th Ave. (Room 110) in Maywood, the Best of Proviso Township Glam Squad will host a free prom dress drive. They’ll also offer free hair styling, haircuts, makeup and nails done by local hairstylists, barbers, MUA’s and nail techs.

Get inspired by three black, male doctors

On March 17, 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., at Afriware Books, 1701 1st Ave. (Suite 503) in Maywood, Doctors Max Madhere, Pierre Johnson and Joe Semien — three African Americans who met while studying pre-med at Xavier University and pushed each other through medical school to become doctors — will talk about their new book, “Pulse of Perseverance.” VFP
