Although Proviso East lost to Curie 50-30 in the Riverside-Brookfield Sectional semifinals of the Class 4A state playoffs on March 6, the Pirates turned in another winning season under the guidance of head coach Donnie Boyce.

And at least one Pirate, senior guard Trevor Moore, is representing the school at the IHSA tournament in Peoria.

Moore blazed through the preliminary round of the Three-Point Showdown Class 4A State Finals, hitting 11 three-pointers, the second-highest tally in a field of 32 competitors.

He’s now set to face three other sharpshooters from Lake Zurich, Lincoln-Way Central and Arlington Heights in the final round of the competition in Peoria on March 16 at 7 p.m.

Proviso East finished with a 17-8 record, highlighted by an 83-70 victory over highly regarded Fenwick in the Fenton Regional final.

Moore scored a game-high 37 points (including eight 3-pointers) to overwhelm the Friars. Quinlan Bennett and Jordan Morris also played well for the victors. Nationally-ranked sophomore DJ Steward led Fenwick with 26 points.

The senior-laden Pirates also notched impressive wins against rival Proviso West, New Trier, St. Joseph and St. Patrick.

Boyce, a former NBA player and member of the two state title teams at Proviso East, welcomes back five varsity players next season. VFP
