A family of around four people has been displaced and one person seriously injured as a result of a house fire that happened on March 18, according to Maywood Fire Chief Craig Bronaugh.
The fire broke out in a single-family home at 1234 S. 21st Ave. in Maywood at around 7:31 a.m., Bronaugh said.
One resident sustained first- and second-degree burns on his arm and was rushed to Loyola University Medical Center, where he is in serious condition.
No one else was injured, but the home is currently inhospitable, Bronaugh said.
The family, the chief added, has been referred to the American Red Cross for emergency assistance and help finding alternative shelter.
Bronaugh said that the fire started in a first-floor bedroom and spread throughout the two-story home. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, he said. VFP
