Emanuel Robinson Jr., a veteran foreman who worked at Proviso East High School in Maywood for more than 30 years, died on April 8. He was 89 years old. Robinson’s death was confirmed by relatives.
Robinson, whom many people affectionately called “Robbie,” was a longtime Maywood resident, his grandson, Jimmie Robinson, said.
“My granddad alway had the greatest smile when you met him,” Jimmie said.
“He loved hanging out with the fellas at the garage on 10th and Warren,” he added. “He had this saying whenever someone asked how he was doing. He would reply, with a smile, ‘Walking a little slower, bending a little lower’.”
Carl Foreside, a Proviso East graduate who wrestled for the school, said that Emanuel would often give him brief life lessons before matches.
“I would never forget him helping us out during my high school wrestling days,” Foreside said. “He used to always encourage me before I wrestled.”
The visitation for Emanuel Robinson will take place on Sunday, April 15, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Second Baptist Church, 436 S. 13th Ave. in Maywood. His funeral service and repast will also be at Second Baptist on Monday, April 16, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. (wake), and 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. (service). VFP
