There’s a lot happening in the Proviso Township area this week. Here are just a sampling of the big events going on near you:
Enjoy ‘Godspell’ at Walther Lutheran
On Friday, April 27 and Saturday, April 28, 7 p.m. (both days), and Sunday, April 29, 3 p.m., at Walther Lutheran Christian Academy, 900 Chicago Ave., enjoy performances of the musical “Godspell.”
Tickets will be available at the door. Adults: $10. Students (ages 4 to grade 12): $6. Walther students with ID and those under age 3 get in FREE. Limited concessions available. For more info, call (708) 344-0404.
Have a criminal record? Learn the steps to getting it sealed or expunged
On Saturday, April 28, 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the Bellwood Public Library, 600 Bohland Ave. in Bellwood, Catherine Dixon, president and CEO of New Life, will address common questions related to expunging or sealing criminal records, such as: Where do I file my petition? Do I need a lawyer? How much will it cost? How long will it take?

Listen to music from the Civil War, take in a spring concert
On Saturday, April 28, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., at the Maywood Public Library, 121 S. 5th Ave. in Maywood, Phil Passen will perform “Songs of the U.S. Civil War on Hammered Dulcimer.”
This event is to honor Maywood’s third annual Civil War: A Living History, scheduled to take place on May 5. This program is partially sponsored by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency. For more info, call (708) 343-1847.
Later on that Saturday, at the Maywood Public Library, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., take in the library’s spring concert, themed “Power of the Story.” All are welcome!
Maywood spring cleanup starts May 2
Starting May 2, the village of Maywood and Republic Services will start collecting large, bulky household items and junk. Smaller, loose items must be in containers or tied and bundled. Household hazardous waste will NOT be accepted. Please have your discarded items at your garbage pick-up point on Wednesday morning of the week Republic is in your neighborhood:
- May 2 | Roosevelt north to I-290; 1st Ave. west to 25th Ave.
- May 9 | I-290 north to Madison; Greenwood west to 21st Ave.
- May 16 | Madison north to Railroad; 1st Ave. west to 21st Ave.
- May 23 | Main Street north to village limits; Des Plaines west to 9th Ave.
Need a job? Attend a Ferrara Candy hiring fair
Ferrara Candy, the company that produces brands such as Chuckles, Lemonheads and Boston Baked Beans, will host a hiring fair on Wednesday, May 2, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at SERCO (Southwest Suburban Cook County American Job Center), 7222 W. Cermak Road, Suite 301, in North Riverside.
The company is looking for people to work as machine and mogul operators, quality control technicians and maintenance mechanics at its Bellwood manufacturing plant, 3000 Washington Blvd.
