On May 4, the Garfield Elementary PTO hosted its second annual Father-Daughter Dance at the school, 1514 S. 9th Ave. in Maywood.
“At Garfield, we try to provide an atmosphere for fathers and daughters to come together and spend quality time together,” said Vernell Brown, the PTO president.
“Fathers are always working,” he said. “This gives them an opportunity to show their love and appreciation for their children.”

Brown said that the PTO came up with the idea of a Father-Daughter Dance to help build a family-oriented environment at the school. The dances, school officials said, are highly anticipated each year by local fathers.

“We are proud of the work of our fathers and our PTO and we look forward to many annual dances in the future,” said Garfield Principal Marsha Alexander.

“We also want to thank our staff at the school and everyone else who helped to host the event each year,” she said. “Every year, our fathers anticipate this event, which allows us to celebrate fatherhood.” VFP
