A Maywood man has been charged with killing Michael Harris at about 4:34 a.m. at the intersection of Elgin Avenue and Adams Street in Forest Park on June 10, according to a statement issued by the Forest Park police department.

Police charged Martell Dorsey, 23, with one count of first degree murder and one count of felony murder in the commission of robbery, after Harris, 66, of Chicago, was found lying at the intersection with a gunshot wound.

That morning, Forest Park officers responded to Elgin and Adams for multiple calls of shots fired.

Oak Park police spotted a man whose description matched that of the offender walking east from Harlem Avenue onto Jackson Boulevard in Oak Park. When he saw police, the man ran through several yards and was eventually found hiding in a crawl space.

He was holding ammunition at the time of his arrest, and a Glock pistol was recovered near where he was found hiding. The weapon was stolen from an auxiliary Forest Park police officer’s locked car on June 9. Police said the burglar used force to enter the vehicle.

The Forest Park Investigative Division, along with the West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force and Forensics, are investigating the shooting. VFP

  1. It’s interesting that the Village Free Press posts news of murders, drive-by shootings, drug arrests that are committed by people who live in / are from Maywood. At times it feel like Maywoodians should be proud to have produced these people instead of decrying the fact that Maywood has a bunch of criminals living here and police that do nothing to rid us of these miscreants. And the Village administration thinks people should be clamoring to move to Maywood. How much dumber can you be?

  2. THE MAYWOOD WATCHER: I applaud “The Village Free Press” for covering the “Crime” that is happening in the village of Maywood to keep the residents and the Proviso Township informed of what’s going on, and how the community can collaborate with the police department to get rid of the perpetrators that did this horrible crime.

You quote: “At times it feel like Maywoodians should be proud to have produced these people instead of decrying the fact that Maywood has a bunch of criminals living here and police that do nothing to rid us of these miscreants.” I don’t think so! There are good amazing people living in Maywood that are good productive citizens that wants to move the village forward. I think that people need to realize that some criminals, especially the youth that do these crimes is how they were raised with no parental supervision, and not teaching their children values at a young age. IT STARTS AT HOME! It’s not the village of Maywood, schools, teachers, churches, pastors, or the police to raise their child!
