There’s a lot happening in the Proviso Township area this week. Here are just a sampling of the big events going on near you:

Register for DBL’s basketball camp

On Saturday, June 16, 12 p.m., at Proviso East High School, 807 S. 1st Ave. in Maywood, register your kids, ages 5 to 17, in the 3rd Annual DBL Summer Basketball Camp. This FREE camp will be held from Monday, July 16 to Friday, July 20, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at Proviso East.

Draft Day for the camp will take place Saturday, July 14, 12 p.m., at Proviso East, when youths will meet their coaches and take individual and team photos. The camp includes: a camp T-shirt, lunch, water/Gatorade, DBL wristband, NBA player guest appearances, skills/drills, competitive games and awards.

Attend a popup produce market

On Saturday, June 16, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Maywood Multipurpose Building, 200 S. 5th Ave. in Maywood, Forty Acres Fresh Market in conjuction with Maywood Trustee Isiah Brandon will host a Spring Produce Market featuring food demos and affordable fruits and vegetables. Cash, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover and Illinois Link Cards accepted.

Celebrate Juneteenth in Maywood 

On Saturday, June 16, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., at 5th and Oak St. (behind the Maywood Police Station), celebrate Juneteenth by attending an African American Independence Day Celebration Family Day BBQ. For more info, contact Miguel Jones at

Celebrate the Feast of St. Anthony

On Saturday, June 16, 5 p.m., at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish & Shrine, 1101 N. 23rd Ave. in Melrose Park, the final Tridiuum for the The St. Anthony Society of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel’s Feast of St. Anthony will be held. The annual event is one of the largest St. Anthony Feast Day celebrations in the Chicago Archdiocese.

On Sunday, June 17, 10:30 a.m., at Mt. Carmel, the society will host Mass with a traditional blessing of the bread, veneration of the relic and process through the streets accompanied by Banada Napolitana. After the process, refreshments will be served in the gym. For more information, call (708) 344-4140.

Celebrate Father’s Day at a Maywood church

On Sunday, June 17, 10:30 a.m., at Impact Church, located inside of the Maywood Park District, 921 S. 9th Ave. in Maywood, attend a Father’s Day extravaganza featuring worship and food.

A few events to look forward to … 

Meet Broadview firefighters

On Thursday, June 21, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Broadview Fire Station, 2400 S. 25th Ave. in Broadview, the Fire Department will host a “Meet Your Firefighters BBQ.” The firefighters and paramedics “would like to show you what it takes to provide excellent service to the community. Prepare your vehicle for a car show

Although it doesn’t happen until June 23, you need to leeway if you plan to enter your vehicle into First Baptist Church of Melrose Park’s 6th Annual Car & Bike Show on June 23, noon to 5 p.m., at 2114 Main Street in Melrose Park. The event is free and trophies will be awarded in various categories. Food, games and other offerings.
