A Krispy Kreme Doughnut store is coming to Proviso Township. On July 2, the village of Hillside broke ground on a Krispy Kreme that will be located at 110 S. Mannheim Road.
According to the village’s newsletter, the Hillside Herald, Uber will provide retail delivery from the store.
“We are extremely happy to have Krispy Kreme join the family of businesses within our Village,” stated Hillside Mayor Joseph Tamburino in the newsletter. “This outstanding company will be an asset to our town, and we wish to welcome them to our business community.”
According to a notification on the burgeoning store’s Facebook page, the Hillside Krispy Kreme is scheduled to open in late September.
The Hillside store marks the first phase of Krispy Kreme’s reemergence in the Chicago area. In June 2015, the company first announced its plans to come back here since the recession 10 years ago forced it to close many stores after period of rapid expansion that started in 2000.
A 2016 Chicago Tribune report noted that Chicagoland Restaurants LLC is the franchisee behind the company’s new Chicago-area locations.
At the time, the Tribune reported that suburban “areas are more ideal for Krispy Kreme’s ‘factory stores,’ those that produce the doughnuts on the assembly line visible to customers. Those shops will then serve as the base to supply the eight stores and possibly some other retail outlets that will sell Krispy Kreme doughnuts again.” VFP
