No injuries were reported after a major fire engulfed a single-family home on the 1200 block of South 1st Ave. in Maywood, less than a block away from Proviso East, according to Maywood Fire Chief Craig Bronaugh.

Firefighters from multiple area departments, including Broadview, Bellwood, Hillside, Westchester, River Forest, Stone Park and River Grove all responded to the fire.

Bronaugh said that a home directly to the north of the house that caught fire sustained heat damage.

So far, there’s been no word on what caused the fire. Bronaugh said that the fire originated on the back porch, which “narrowed down to where grills” were located.

A portion of 1st Ave., from Madison St. to Maybrook Drive, was closed for more than an hour.
