The Illinois State Police are currently looking for the driver of a vehicle that’s wanted in connection to a homicide that happened sometime ago in Maywood, according to a report in the Chicago Tribune.

Maywood Police Commander Elijah Willis said that the homicide the Tribune references happened July 31, on the 1800 block of South 1st Ave. in Maywood. The suspect injured one person and killed another man, Kevon L. Sturkey, 24, of Maywood.

According to the Tribune, state police tried to pull over the driver of the vehicle in question shortly after midnight on Aug. 28. The driver was traveling southbound near I-94 and 79th Street, authorities said.

“The vehicle, which has not been further described, was wanted for leaving the scene of a homicide in Maywood and for aggravated fleeing and eluding,” according to the Tribune, which cites a statement from ISP Sergeant Ryan Cape.

After the police pursuit, the vehicle crashed at Vermont and Pernell. The driver then exited the car and ran away. Police “did not shoot back” and the driver was not apprehended.
