There’s a lot happening in the Proviso Township area for you and your family. Below are just a few events to look forward to:
Attend a career fair
On Thursday, Sept. 13, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., at the Maywood Public Library, 121 S. 5th Ave. in Maywood, the library in conjunction with Triton College will host a career fair. Companies hiring experienced machine operators, customer service representatives, officer clerical and sales representatives, general laborers and material handlers will be present.

Have fun at Maywood Fest!
From Friday, Sept. 14 until Sunday, Sept. 16, at Maywood Veterans Memorial Park, located along Oak Street, between First and Fifth Avenues.
Musical acts will include the Legendary Blue Notes, K’Jon, D’Erania, Tamborazo Rancho Bonito, Michael Charles, Calvin Bridges, DJ Flip, John Blu, Pastor Darius Brooks, Bridgette Hurt, Pastor Carl Mabins and Changed Ministries, and DJ Shorty Smooth.
Other activities will include line dancing, a bounce house, horse rides, glam trucks, youth programming by Firebrand Art Network and interactive programming by Village Free Press. The event will also feature merchandise and food vendors.

Help build a Maywood park
On Friday, Sept. 14, 7:45 a.m., 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Winfield Scott Park, located at 19th Ave. and Maywood Drive, volunteers will help build a park. The Maywood Park District and Kaboom have partnered on this event.
The goal is to recruit 175 volunteers to help build the park, officials said. To volunteer, call the Maywood Park District at (708) 344-4740.
Get your brake lights replaced for free
On Saturday, Sept. 15, the West Cook Democratic Socialists of America will host a free brake light clinic in Maywood. Anyone interested in learning more about the event should email Tim at Thomastim4@gmail.com.
Learn about home-ownership
On Saturday, Sept. 15, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at Schroeder Park, 2600 S. 13th Ave. in Broadview, Mayor Katrina Thompson and the Monroe Foundation will host a free pre-purchasing home-buying education orientation workshop.
You should attend if you: want to buy a home, but don’t know what to do; want to learn how to qualify for down payment assistance; want to learn how to build your credit to buy a home; want to qualify for a $500 grant from the Monroe Foundation toward closing costs.
