Roughly a year after opening inside of Forest Park Plaza, HOBO — the home improvement store located at 7630 W. Roosevelt Rd. — seems poised to close, according to a notice the store’s parent company filed on Oct. 19.
The company, which is based in Waukegan, has four stores in Illinois and two in Wisconsin.
According to a Forest Park Review report, the company “signed a 124-month lease for the former Kmart location in March 2017. Kmart, owned by Sears, closed in December 2014. HOBO sells furniture, kitchen and bath, home décor and flooring products.”
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported on Friday that the company stated in a notice that it is “pursuing a sale of its business operations and facilities, but due to current economic circumstances, is concurrently preparing to conduct an orderly liquidation and wind down of its operations.”
In a letter to employees obtained by CBS 2 Chicago, “the owners say they are trying to sell the company. However, it they can’t, ‘we expect to begin closing the facility on or after December 20, 2018.'”
CBS 2 also reported that HOBO’s roughly 400 employees could be terminated “between December 20 and December 31, 2018,” according to the company letter. VFP
