Get free food and winter items
On Thursday, Nov. 22, 11 a.m., at Eisenhower Community Center, 700 Speechley Blvd. in Hillside, the Kings Daughters of Christian Unity Baptist Church will feed and clothe those in need on Thanksgiving Day. Doors open to all. Free. First come, first served.
If you know someone in need, please pass the information along. If you desire to donate new or used coats, blankets, comforters and other items, call 855-61-FAITH.
Enjoy a prayer hike and breakfast on Thanksgiving Day
On Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 22, 7 a.m. (sharp), at First Congregational Church of Maywood, 400 N. 5th Ave. in Maywood, the historic church will host its annual Thanksgiving prayer hike and breakfast. For more info, call (708) 344-6150.
Commemorate Gene Moore on Thanksgiving Day
On Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 22, 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., at Second Baptist Church, 436 S. 13th Ave. in Maywood, come celebrate the life of Eugene “Gene” Moore with a free feast. Volunteers and donations needed.

Get ready for a holiday bazaar
The Maywood Neighborhood Improvement Association is getting ready for its annual youth celebration and holiday bazaar to take place on Saturday, Dec. 8, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., at Proviso Math and Science Academy, 8601 Roosevelt Rd. in Forest Park.
Although this event doesn’t happen until next month, you can call (708) 227-0057 now if you’re interested in becoming a vendor or volunteer at this family event. Activities will include face-painting, cheerleading, shopping with local entrepreneurs, open mic, line dancing, beauty bar and other entertainment. VFP
