Maywood’s three-person local electoral board is set to reconvene hearings on objections filed against two candidates for three open trustee seats on Jan. 16, 1 p.m., at Council Chambers, 125 S. 5th Ave. in Maywood, according to a notification released by the village clerk’s office.
The board will hear objections to the candidacies of Nathaniel George Booker and Anettra Barber-Burnside. In a previous hearing, the board had directed the campaigns to undergo a binder check to test for the validity of their nominating signatures.
Booker and Barber-Burnside are the last two candidates facing objections. On Jan. 2, another Maywood trustee candidate, Asia Ousley, was removed from the ballot after the board ruled in favor of an objection claiming that she did not get the minimum number of nominating signatures.
And during a Dec. 10 local electoral board hearing, Maywood resident John Olsen requested to withdraw his objection to the candidacies of Antonette Dorris and Steven R. Smiley, members of the Maywood Visionary Party.
If both Booker and Barber-Burnside survive the objection process, Maywood will have 11 candidates vying for three open trustee seats on the board in the April 2 election. VFP
