An educator hired earlier this month to fill a high-level administrative position with Proviso Township High Schools District 209 has abruptly withdrawn his name from consideration for the position.
During a regular meeting on Jan. 8, the D209 school board unanimously voted to approve an employment contract for Michael Tanner to become the district’s new assistant superintendent of finance and operations.
It was discovered that Tanner had withdrawn after district officials reposted the position on Jan. 23.
When contacted on Wednesday evening, D209 officials confirmed that Tanner had, in fact, backed out of the job offer, adding that they did not have an explanation for the decision. Tanner could not be contacted on Wednesday evening for comment.
Tanner’s contract was supposed to run from Jan. 7 through June 30, 2020. He would have received a salary of $164,000, which included his contribution to the Teachers’ Retirement System.
Before he was hired with D209, Tanner worked for the Fremont School District 79, where he served as associate superintendent for finance and operations.
Tanner would have replaced Todd Drafall, D209’s former chief business officer who resigned last year. The district has employed an interim to fulfill that role since Drafall left. VFP
