In December, the Melrose Park Board of Trustees voted to annex Maywood Park Racetrack, 8600 W. North Ave., in order to make way for three industrial buildings scheduled to be completed later this year.

Village officials said that the process would entail demolishing the facility’s abandoned structures, including its iconic grandstand, in order to build three industrial buildings and retail space on the property.

Well, the wrecking crews are already out and the demolition has started. Soon, the park, which closed in 2015 after filing a Chapter 11 bankruptcy, will go the way of Kiddieland — its neighbor to the west. VFP
